Terms of Service

1. Technology

Lessons take place online and you need to use a desktop or laptop computer for your lessons. This will allow you to record lessons and to use all the other functionality available to you such as screen-sharing.

You may NOT do lessons on a phone or tablet as these devices are distracting and don’t allow you to take full advantage of the lesson experience. If you arrive for your lesson and are using a phone or tablet, then I will postpone your lesson until you are set up on a computer.

 

 

2. Zoom

I use Zoom video conferencing software for lessons. I will help you to get set up with Zoom.  

     o You are required to make sure your computer, your microphone and your camera meet the required specifications by checking this list from Zoom  https://support.zoom.us/hc/en-us/articles/201362023-System-requirements-for-Windows-macOS-and-Linux

     o You should do a technology check and make sure your camera and microphone are working before EACH lesson.  If you have technology issues that delay the start of your lesson, I cannot guarantee that we will make up the time. I will often have a lesson to go to straight after yours, so I have to finish at the scheduled time.

 

 

3. Timing

Your lesson schedule, which we will agree together before you make your first payment, will show your lesson start and finish times in your local time.

Lessons start promptly at the agreed time. I allow up to 10 minutes for lateness but after that, if you haven’t contacted me, I will cancel the lesson as there is no point in starting a lesson that late.  

I will often have other students before and after your lesson, so I cannot extend your lesson time because of lateness.

If you are going to be late for a lesson, let me know as soon as possible.

 

 

4. Rescheduling Lessons

Once paid for, lessons may be rescheduled within reason with no extra charge. You are required to give at least 24 hours’ notice if you need to do this.  

Rescheduled lessons will either be added to the end of your lesson package or rescheduled at an agreed time between us. I will make every effort to reschedule you on the same day of the week and at the same time of day, but there may be a need to change either or both of these.

If you give less than 24 hours’ notice, then rescheduling is at my discretion. I may charge you for all or part of the missed lesson.

 

 

5. Payment

Payment is due the day before your first lesson. You may pay by major credit card by following the link on the electronic invoice that I will send to you once we have agreed your lesson plan.

We may make an agreement for you to pay in instalments. Unlike some other companies, I do NOT make an extra charge for this service.

 

 

6. Refunds

You may request a refund at any time. Please contact me to discuss this.

 

 

7. Intellectual Property

All documents shared during my lesson are the intellectual property of Jane Birkenhead and Birkenhead English. You are not authorized to copy, reproduce, re-publish, sell, upload, broadcast, post, transmit or distribute any of these materials.

 

 

8. Changes to these Terms and Conditions

Birkenhead English reserves the right to revise, modify or update these Terms at any time.
